- "Charting Progress, Building Visions, Improving Life"-
¡Û The Commissioner of the Statistic Korea, Dr. Insill Yi, , attended the Workshop of the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (CMEPSP) on 14 September. The Commission was established by the President of France, Nicholas Sarkozy in 2008.
¡Û The Commissioner Yi, as a representative of the Government of Korea, welcomed the outcomes of the Commission as it is highly related to Korea's strategic policy "Green Growth" and to the core agenda of the third OECD World Forum to be held in Korea in October this year.
¡Û This OECD World Forum is a global platform to identify the new paradigm of social progress going "beyond GDP", and to discuss how to develop new indicators for measuring the progress and how to facilitate those indicators in making policies. In this sense, the Forum is highly relevant to the outcomes of the CMEPSP unveiled today. Other global issues including 'Quality of Life', 'Climate Change' will be also discussed during the Forum.
¡Û In the Forum, Joseph Stiglitz who is chairing the Commission will deliver a keynote speech in the session "New Paradigm to Measure Progress". This World Forum will attract some 1,500 high level participants, with mixture of politicians and policy makers, opinion leaders, academics, journalists and representatives of civil society.
